چکیده

In Section 1.1 of this Supporting Information, we present a formal derivation of the SWIG methodology and a rigorous proof that this method affords smooth potential energy surfaces. These arguments generalize the S-COSMO model of York and Karplus1 to more a more general class of PCMs.2–4 In slightly modified form, these arguments can be used to extend the FIXPVA method5 to these more general PCMs, although the FIXPVA method as described in Ref. 5 uses a different switching function that the one employed here. Our switching function is described in detail in Section 1.2.

Improving the efficiency and convergence of geometry optimization with the polarizable continuum model: New energy gradients and molecular surface tessellation

New equations are derived and implemented for efficient and accurate computation of solvation energy derivatives for the conductor-like polarizable continuum model (C-PCM) and the isotropic integral equation formalism polarizable continuum model (IEF-PCM). Two new molecular surface tessellation procedures GEPOL-RT and GEPOL-AS that generate near continuous potential energy surfaces are proposed...

A variational formulation of the polarizable continuum model.

Continuum solvation models are widely used to accurately estimate solvent effects on energy, structural and spectroscopic properties of complex molecular systems. The polarizable continuum model (PCM) is one of the most versatile among the continuum models because of the variety of properties that can be computed and the diversity of methods that can be used to describe the solute from molecula...

Smooth potential energy surface for cavitation, dispersion, and repulsion free energies in polarizable continuum model.

Smooth potential energy surfaces and analytic gradients are obtained for cavitation, dispersion, and repulsion free energies in the polarizable continuum model using the fixed points with variable areas (FIXPVA) tessellation scheme. In addition, it is shown that FIXPVA can reproduce the standard GEPOL results to within 1 kcal/mol.

Dispersion and repulsion contributions to the solvation free energy: Comparison of quantum mechanical and classical approaches in the polarizable continuum model

We report a systematic comparison of the dispersion and repulsion contributions to the free energy of solvation determined using quantum mechanical self-consistent reaction field (QM-SCRF) and classical methods. In particular, QM-SCRF computations have been performed using the dispersion and repulsion expressions developed in the framework of the integral equation formalism of the polarizable c...

Solvation energies and electronic spectra in polar, polarizable media: Simulation tests of dielectric continuum theory

A dielectric continuum theory for the solvation of a polar molecule in a polar, polarizable solvent is tested using computer simulations of formaldehyde in water. Many classes of experiments, for example those which measure solvent-shifted vertical transition energies or electron transfer rates, require an explicit consideration of the solvent electronic polarization. Due to the computational c...
